Neat, stylish and fun to drive, the Aygo is the smallest and most affordable Toyota. If you're looking for an economical, reliable city car that can still show you a good time behind the wheel, it should definitely be on your list.
The Aygo first went on sale in 2005, with the second generation arriving in 2014; further improvements were made in 2018 in the form of a cleaner, more powerful 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine. On the road, the Aygo is graceful and engaging, and handles well, with accurate steering and an supple ride, and feels at home both around town and cruising on the motorway. The cabin feels good quality and the front seats are comfortable and spacious, with enough room for taller drivers and passengers; there's decent headroom in the back too.
Fuel economy is a very frugal 69mpg and CO2 emissions are just 92g/km – if you're buying an Aygo from before April 2017, when the car tax rules changed, you should find you pay no or low road tax. Add to that low insurance, affordable spare parts, and Toyota’s fantastic reliability (the company almost always finishes near the top of reliability surveys), and you should have a car that's very economical to run and extremely dependable. Plus many of the used cars we sell are less than five years old, which will mean your Aygo is still under warranty.
The Aygo keeps you protected with front, side and curtain airbags, tyre pressure monitoring, hill start assist, ABS, seatbelt pretensioners and electronic stability control. Previous owners may also have opted to fit Toyota's Safety Sense system, which includes automatic braking that can detect if you’re about to hit the car in front, and an audible warning that sounds if you start to drift out of your lane.
As for technology, all the latest models from X-Play up get air conditioning, a reversing camera and a DAB radio with Bluetooth. Go up to X-Trend for alloy wheels, front fog lights and automatic headlights, and X-Cite for Apple Carplay and Android Auto compatibility.
